Okay there are many ways to make a canvas, but this quick tutorial shows you how anyone can transfer  a printed photo onto canvas and give off an amazing effect

First you will need a blank canvas, you can get these in all different  shapes and sizes at your local art accessories shop

Next you will need to buy an acrylic gel medium paste that when dry is transparent, again there are many types ranging from glossy to textured you make your choice,

Paint brushes something good enough to cover the canvas as you will be painting

An old credit card or something that is flat flexible and resembles close to the card

Some scissors to cut out your design

A sponge

And finally a squirty bottle of water

LET'S GET CREATING

Once you have decided on a design and is saved to the computer, you want to print it off to the same dimensions as your canvas, but add an inch border all the way around. Either blank or a continuation of the image printed as a mirror image

The printed image is finished now face down put the paper onto the canvas just to double check that it is correct and you are happy with the size,If not then get the scissors out if it is too big, Now remove the paper and put it to one side.

Using your paint brush and gel medium, cover the canvas thoroughly, nice even strokes when the whole canvas is covered it is time to insert your image over the top face down onto the canvas as stated earlier, Time to flatten the image by pushing out all air bubbles  or creases ,this is where the credit card comes in gently squeeze everything out until your canvas looks nice and flat, when you are happy with this leave it over -night to dry.

The next morning you will need some your squirty bottle of water and your sponge gently spray the water onto your canvas not drowning it,but enough to just  wet the paper, leave it to soak for a few minutes, you should start to see the image come through now by using the sponge gently dab the paper removing the layers of paper, try to stick to 1 section of the image at a time, once the paper starts to peel away, you can use your finger to start rubbing of the last bits of paper, All of this process must be done carefully , try not to rush it as you don’t want to rub off the ink.

Finally when you have peeled off all of the excess paper, or feel that your canvas looks perfect as it is, then it is time to paint another layer of the gel medium, this will protect your image, let this dry then voila. You have created your own  canvas piece that has a professional touch to it,

Once you have mastered this why not try using a block of wood and follow the same process  or you could transfer to clay fabric or any other material that is pourous, Experiment give it a go

I hope you have enjoyed learning this process stay tuned for more updates that are up and coming

Please feel free to post up your pieces and any other comments I would love to see them

When Picasso and Van Gogh were around they painted straight onto canvas to create some amazing art pieces. You may not be a Picasso or Van Gogh yourself, but that shouldn’t stop you from producing YOUR OWN canvas art, as there are many ways in which you can do this and get the same effect as the pros.Options are endless, you can easily create your very own gallery wrapped canvas print by using family photos, holiday photos, even you’re pet photos, or any type of graffiti graphic etc.  Just experiment with images that are of interest to you. Beautiful landscapes you may have caught on the camera, funny moment’s happy memories the list is endless.

What is the process?

The technique is where the artist’s finished canvas piece is stretched over a wooden frame and is stapled or tacked  to the back of the frame ensuring no visible marks are present at the sides or front of the piece.. The image on the side of the canvas can be a continuation of the main artwork or a left blank. Canvases are becoming very popular within the household and businesses. Maybe you have a passion for movies and want to treasure you’re favorite film by producing a canvas ready to hang in the living room. Over the years I have seen pubs/bars restaurants etc. sporting pieces like this, which have certainly caught my eye as they give off a great effect keeping you interested when you look around the place. here is an image of my favorite childhood movie
